Abd Rahman Milan was born in Tangkak Johor. He was graduated with Bachelor of Agriculture in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1983. He then joined MARDI as Research Officer specialized in Plant Breeding and Genetics of Field Crops and Tropical Fruits. He received Master of Science from University of Illinois at Urbana –Champaign in 1988 and Ph.D from Norman Borlaug Institute for Plant Science Research in Leicester United Kingdom in 2001.

 

His current major research areas are breeding for fruit quality in starfruit, breeding for nematode resistance in guava, genetic conservation of starfruit, guava, Artocarpus species and mangosteen. His minor research area is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) application in agriculture biodiversity and socio-economic research. He has served Research Officer in various MARDI stations at Kubang Keranji Kelantan, Kluang Johor, Serdang Selangor and is also appointed as Station Manager in MARDI Bukit Tangga Kedah from 2007-2008.

 

He is a life member of Persatuan Genetik Malaysia (PGM) and represents PGM in COSTAM council and served as Executive Council of COSTAM from 2006-2008. He was also active member in Plant Variety Protection (PVP) activities in Department of Agriculture. He was appointed as International Panel of Judges for International Invention Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) since 2007 and now is the selection panel for National Science Fellowship (NSF) at MOSTI.

 

He was Honorary Secretary of Persatuan Genetik Malaysia since 2005.
