Associate Professor Dr Halimi Mohd Saud is currently the Deputy Dean (Development, Community and Industry Linkages), Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Prior to this he was the Head, Department of Agriculture Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM from January 2008 until September 2012. He joined UPM in 1985 as a Tutor after completing his BSc (Hons) Genetics from the University of Liverpool, UK and then pursued his postgraduate studies and obtained his PhD in 1990 from The University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, Wales, UK. He was initially appointed as a lecturer at the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM upon completing his PhD and then attached to the Department of Agriculture Technology, UPM in 2003. He has been involved in the core activities of teaching, research and extension at UPM. Teaching duties include teaching Diploma, Bachelor and postgraduate courses. To date he has led several research programs and projects which were funded by government ministries such as MOSTI and MOE and also from private sectors such as IWK. In addition he has received research funding for two projects from IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), Vienna. Apart from teaching and research he has supervised 35 (PhDs) and 47 (Masters) students either as a main supervisor or co-supervisor. In addition he has also supervised more than 65 Final-year Project students at Bachelor’s level. From the research activities he has published more than 90 papers in CIJ and non-CIJ publications with more than 140 papers as proceedings. He has also co-authored 2 books and a module and 4 chapters in books and part of the editorial team for several national and international proceedings and conferences. He was also appointed as a reviewer for papers published in national and international journals. During his career at UPM he has won several awards. Nationally, he was a MOSTI Finalist National Innovation Award 2011 and 2013. He has also won a Silver Medal at the Diplome Salon International des Inventions, Geneva (2004). In addition he has a Malaysian patent No. MY – 133162 A for “Seed treatment reagent for direct seeding paddy seed" with two other researchers. This patent is now a commercialized product using the trade name ‘Zappa’. He has also been awarded with a Third World Fellowships Scheme, The Royal Society, London, United Kingdom in 1996 and a Visiting Researcher Award from Monbusho, JSPS-NRCT/DOST/LIPI/VCC, Japan (2002). He has also managed to earn the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (APC) or Excellent Service Award from UPM in 2009 and 2014. Currently as the Deputy Dean he has been given the tasked to develop and inculcate linkages and extension with industrial and communities at both national and international levels. In addition he is also given the responsibility for managing and generating income for the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM.
