Ms Sharifah Azween is presently a Genetic Counsellor in Clinical Genetics Unit, UKM Medical Centre. She obtained her first degree in Genetics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and subsequently was awarded the MSc in Genetic Counselling from Cardiff University, United Kingdom. During her studies in United Kingdom, Ms Azween had opportunities to do an internship in Clinical Genetics Department at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in London and Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland. The internship involved Ms Azween to work as a genetic counsellor in the team under supervision, which require her to offer genetic counselling to patient including offering information on the inheritance, pre- and post- genetic testing counselling, providing genetic test results, which involving breaking bad news and offering psychological supports to individual or families at-risk or affected by genetic diseases.
