Dr Shamsiah Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and recently appointed as Program Coordinator at the Postgraduate Centre of the faculty in Shah Alam. She also served as the Head of Quality Unit for the faculty. She was previously the Head of Agrotechnology Academic Center (2012-2014) before the faculty was officially moved to the new campus in Jasin, Melaka. She possesses a degree, B Sc. (Hons.) in Industrial Biotechnology from University of Malaya (1999). She then obtained her M. Sc. from the same university in 2004 and was the recipient of the National Science Fellowship (NSF). She pursued her studies in Plant Genetics at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia under the Scholarship of Young Lecturer Scheme from Universiti Teknologi MARA and was awarded a PhD degree in 2010. Her research interest includes plant genetics engineering, molecular breeding and plant biotechnology which focuses on agriculture crops. She is currently working on genetic engineering of stevia plant and induced-mutation in rice which are funded by national and international research grants provider such as MOSTI and TORAY. She supervises either as a main or co-supervisor of research students at master and PhD level. In addition she has also supervised more than 30 Final-year Project students at Bachelor’s level. To date, she has published more than 40 publications in journals, proceedings, bulletin, and co-authored 1 book and chapters in books. She was appointed as examiner for graduate student thesis and also has experienced as a reviewer for papers published in journals and proceeding and part of technical team for several national and international proceedings and conferences.
