Persatuan Genetik Malaysia :: Profile

Norshariza Nordin is currently a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Genetics Unit, and a member of Genetics & Regenerative Medicine Research Centre in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, UPM. She received her BSc in Microbiology from California State University Sacramento, California, USA in 1995. Later, she continued her MSc in Medical Microbiology at the Universiti Malaya and was conferred the degree in 2002.  In 2006, she obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Genes and Development) specialising in animal stem cell research from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.  Her main research interest focuses on the basic mechanisms involving differentiation processes of stem cells, specifically to unravel the roles of Wnt signalling molecule during neural differentiation process using a transgenic approach. Her research employs mouse embryonic stem (ES) cell as well as amniotic fluid stem (AFS) cells in exploring stem cell differentiation potential and as the models to understand neural development.  Based on these interests, she has formed and led Stem Cell and Neural Development (SCND) group.
