Mohamad Bahagia Bin AB Ghaffar was born on 27 June 1969 in Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. He received a Diploma in Agriculture in 1990 and then a Bachelor in Agriculture Science in 1994 from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (now known as Universiti Putra Malaysia). He was then awarded with a Master of Science in Agriculture (majoring in Plant Breeding) at the same University Putra Malaysia in 1997. He started his carrier as horticulture plant breeder (focusing on pineapple, citrus, papaya and water melon) in 2000 with Malaysia Agriculture Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and worked under Horticulture Research Centre for 7 years at Kluang Research station in Johor. He then pursued his studies in Molecular Breeding at University Of Birmingham, United Kingdom and was awarded a PhD degree in 2012. He was promoted as MARDI Senior Research Officer in 2012 and currently worked as Rice Plant Breeder at MARDI Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang. His research interest is in development of super resistant rice variety against pest disease using conventional and molecular approaches. He is also responsible for development of rice variety for herbicide resistance and early maturing.
